Match the thread exactly
A closure is quoted as diameter plus thread series, for example 38-400. A 38-400 cap fits only a 38 mm neck with a 400-series thread - the jar drawing decides it, not the cap.
Closures & Components
A child-resistant cap is a two-motion closure - push-and-turn or squeeze-and-turn - that a young child cannot open in a set time, while an adult can. Below: the closure types, how to match the neck finish, and what to confirm before ordering.
Buyer questions
Three questions come up in almost every child-resistant project. The answer to each one is below.
Need a different neck finish or a closure that is not listed here? Send the jar drawing and we will confirm fit before you order.
Specifying a child-resistant closure
The closure only works if it matches the jar. Three points decide it - confirm all three before you order.
A closure is quoted as diameter plus thread series, for example 38-400. A 38-400 cap fits only a 38 mm neck with a 400-series thread - the jar drawing decides it, not the cap.
Push-and-turn suits most glass jars. Squeeze-and-turn is easier where a wide jar makes downward force awkward. The geometry sets the opening motion your filling line has to handle.
The liner controls both the seal and compatibility with the product inside. Confirm material and thickness against the formula, then verify application torque with a torque meter.

Specifying CR closures
The neck finish is set by the jar: a 38-400 cap fits only a 38 mm neck with a 400-series thread. Confirm the fit on a physical sample from the same jar lot, and set the capping torque from the closure maker's range.
Quoted as diameter plus thread series - 38-400, 43-400, 53-400. The jar drawing decides it, not the cap.
Too low leaks, too high is hard to open. Set the capper to the closure maker's range and verify with a torque meter.
We state no CR certification unless a test report exists for that specific closure, jar and content combination.
