How to Order Glass Packaging Samples Before a Bulk Order
What a $39 refundable glass packaging sample gets you, how to test it before bulk, and the 6 checks that prevent expensive mistakes at order quantity.
A bulk order of glass packaging is a commitment measured in thousands of pieces. A sample is a commitment measured in $39. The buyers who skip the second commitment to reach the first faster are, in our experience, the ones who end up with 5,000 beautifully printed bottles whose pumps don't fit.
Here is how to order and use samples properly — what the sample proves, what it can't, and the six checks to run before you scale up.

Two boundaries, stated honestly: the $39 stock sample is a blank sample — it confirms the bottle, not the printed decoration. And if you need multiple SKUs or decorated sample options, availability is confirmed at inquiry, because decorated sampling is arranged per project rather than pulled from the shelf.
What a stock sample actually proves

Treat the sample as a physical specification check, not a souvenir:
1. Shape and size in your hand. A 30 ml bottle that looks sleek in photos can feel stubby next to your box design. Proportions are a physical judgment.
2. Weight and wall quality. Heft is part of perceived value; thin spots or seams are visible in hand and invisible on a product page.
3. Closure fit. This is the big one. Put your dropper, pump or sprayer on the bottle and check fit, thread engagement and function. Our closure guide (/closure-guide) explains neck-finish naming so you can order matching closures with confidence.
4. Your product inside it. Fill it. Check how the formula looks against the glass color, how it pours, wicks or pumps, and — for essential oils and actives — that the glass and closure materials are compatible with what you sell.
5. Color against your brand. Hold the bottle next to your packaging dielines. Amber, black and frosted tones vary by batch and by light; check under daylight, not just office light.
6. Photography test. Shoot the sample the way you would shoot the retail product. If it photographs poorly, no specification sheet will save it.
What the sample cannot prove — and how to cover the gap
Bulk consistency. One sample shows the design; production shows the distribution. The bridge is quality control: ask your supplier what in-line QC checks run during your production run (dimensions, capacity, annealing, visual defects). Printed color. Decorated color is approved via a decoration proof against your Pantone references — a separate step from the blank sample. If color-critical, ask about a pre-production decorated sample; availability is confirmed at inquiry.
Shipping survival. One sample in a padded envelope proves nothing about pallet behavior. The 6-check pre-bulk checklist
Run all six on the sample before you release production:
1. Neck finish matches your closures (threaded on/off 10 times — no cross-threading)
2. Filled with your actual product; checked at 24 h and 7 days for interaction or discoloration
3. Weight and dimensions noted against the specification sheet
4. Color approved under daylight against your brand references
5. Unit economics confirmed: EXW price × quantity + freight to your door
6. Lead time confirmed in writing for your quantity (stock orders: 7–15 days)
Only after all six: place the bulk order and the $39 comes off the invoice.

Is the $39 sample fee per piece or per order?
Per sample piece. Each SKU you want to evaluate in hand is its own sample; all sample fees are refundable against your bulk order.
Can I get a printed/decorated sample with my logo?
Decorated sampling is arranged per project — send your artwork with the inquiry and we will confirm what's possible and the timeline before you commit.
How many samples should I order for a new product line?
Enough to run the six checks above plus spares for photography and internal sign-off — typically one per candidate SKU. Comparing two or three candidate bottles on your desk is cheaper than redoing a print program.
Do samples ship internationally?
